Tribute to Rose Hamilton
Rose Hamilton is my grandmother. Rose was born the third child of my great grandparents Thomas Hamilton and Peggy Dunn in or near to Strabane in County Tyrone on 3rd May 1890
At the age of 13, Rose went to work as a servant for a land owning family near the town of Drumquin where he met and married my grandfather Richard Rogers. They married in Drumquin Presbyterian Church on 21st April 1908.
My father Samuel Rogers was born in Drumquin on 6th June 1910.
In 1914 my grandfather joined the Inniskillin Fusiliers and went off to fight in World War 1 leaving Rose to look after 4 young children. He did not return.
Rose did not remarry but raised her children on her own. My father emigrated to Ontario Canada in 1932 and died in Toronto in 1982.
Rose passed away peacefully on 17th July 1971 and after a service in Drumquin Presbyterian Church was laid to rest in the adjoining grave yard.
I post this memorial in her memory.
"The Rose still grows
beyond the garden wall"
Always remembered by your family in Canada and Northern Ireland.
