Civil registration of births was introduced in
Ireland on 1st
January 1864.
"What will a birth
certificate tell me"?
A birth certificate will tell you;
The exact date of the birth
The address at which the birth took place
The full name, occupation, and home address of the father
The full name, including the maiden name of the mother.
The name of the person who was present at the birth (in
many cases the wifes mother)
The date and place of registration and the name of the
person who registered the birth.
"What do I get"?
You will be sent a full copy of the original birth
certificate certified by the General Registers Office
of Northern Ireland.
